Preventive Dentistry

We place a strong emphasis on preventive dental care - the more you look after your own teeth and maintain a healthy mouth, the less dental treatment you'll need in the future. We encourage our patients to work with us in order to avoid having to attend the dentist for repeated fillings and extractions. Through education and regular checkups, our patients receive the know-how and tools to keep their smiles healthy!

Regular check-ups

All patients should attend the dentist for a check-up and professional clean at least twice a year. A check-up is designed to help keep your teeth and gums strong and disease-free and includes gum (periodontal) evaluation, fluoride treatment and oral cancer screening . This will allow us to keep abreast of any problems which may occur in the future. Contact us now to arrange a check-up.

How to brush your teeth

Twice-daily brushings and regular flossing are excellent for maintaining the health of your teeth and gums between check-ups. The best technique involves using a circular or elliptical motion working across the entire mouth with your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle. Make sure you brush both the outside and the inside of your teeth and avoid using a back and forth motion as this can cause the gums to recede. We would recommend you use a toothbrush with soft bristles for about 3 minutes. Note that most people think they are brushing for a longer period than they actually are.

Should I floss my teeth

Yes! Plaque is a sticky layer of material containing germs that accumulates on teeth, including places where toothbrushes can't reach. This can lead to gum disease. The best way to get rid of plaque is to brush and floss your teeth carefully every day. The toothbrush cleans the tops and sides of your teeth. Dental floss cleans in between them. Floss removes plaque and debris that adhere to teeth and gums in between teeth, polishes tooth surfaces, and controls bad breath.
Our team will teach you how to floss effectively.
