Treatments
We offer a number of treatments here at Tom Lane:
Crowns
Dental crowns (sometimes called caps) are made to fit over an existing tooth. They are usually recommended following a root canal filling to protect the remaining tooth and for teeth whose strength is often compromised by extensive decay or very large fillings that may be present.
Bridges
Bridges are units of false teeth that are fixed to remaining natural teeth to fill a gap. A bridge may take the place of one or more missing teeth and the results can be excellent with good function and aesthetic results. With careful maintenance a well-made bridge can last many years. The bone in the jaw surrounding the missing tooth or teeth can continue to recede - this can be overcome with the use of implants in many cases.
Veneers
Veneers are thin, custom-made mouldings that cover the front of unattractive teeth. They are crafted from lifelike, high-tech materials (usually ceramic) to portray a bright, natural smile. If you are looking to improve your smile, custom-fitted veneers can provide the answer.
Whitening
People with stained or dull teeth can benefit from whitening - a safe, effective means to whiten stained, discoloured or dull teeth (or even a single tooth). In-office and supervised at-home whitening systems are available. At-home systems are individually fitted and monitored by your dentist.
Root Canal Therapy
Each of our teeth contains a long, thin strand of dental pulp which is filled with a network of nerves and tissue. If the nerve dies and decays, the teeth can get infected resulting in abscesses and a great deal of pain and discomfort. To prevent this, the dentist cleans out the infected pulp and seals the tooth. The procedure can take some time, but can save teeth from eventually being lost or having to be removed.
Full or partial dentures
Dentures can help take the place of missing natural teeth. They are made of acrylic resin, sometimes in combination with various metals. Wearing dentures will allow a patient to chew and speak more easily while improving appearance and often boosting self-confidence.
Implants may also be used either instead of dentures, or to help keep a denture in place.
Full dentures are used when all of a patient's teeth need to be replaced while a partial denture fills in the spaces created by a few missing teeth and prevents other teeth from changing position. Dentures can help you look and feel your best.
Dental Implants
Dental implants are often seen as the ‘gold-standard’ for replacing teeth, giving good aesthetics and function in many cases and restoring confidence to those who have lost teeth.
Dental implants are small titanium fixtures that are placed into the bone of the jaw. Usually the implant is placed and left for a few months for the jaw bone to heal around it. Implants can then be used with studs or clips to help keep a denture in place, or even to take the place of one or more missing teeth without the need for a removable denture.
Not everyone is suitable for dental implants – if you are interested and are an existing patient, ask for a free appointment with our specialist.
